cruiseorbecruised: Robert Mapplethorpe Joe, NYC, 1977 Gelatin Silver print 7.5 x 7.5 This is the first Mapplethorpe photograph I ever saw in person at the Jan Kesner Gallery  in 1989 … and my favorite (it continues to inspire/haunt me today, as it did in 1989).  Before the internet, seeing works of art was so exciting and now it is something else….can’t quite explain it yet.  Obviously the internet does allow access to works I might never get a chance to see in person for whatever reason.  I am just wondering if this has left me complacent.
